Psychological Assessment

Comprehensive psychological assessment for children, adolescents and adults — cognitive testing, autism spectrum diagnosis, ADHD evaluation, learning assessments and neuropsychological screening. Reports are written in clear language for the people who need to use them.

Who this is for

  • Parents seeking a clear answer about a child's learning or development
  • Adults seeking a late ASD or ADHD diagnosis
  • Families needing assessment for NDIS access or plan review
  • Schools and employers requesting formal documentation
  • Adults curious about cognitive strengths and limitations

What we assess and why people come to us

We complete cognitive assessments using the WAIS-IV (adults) and WISC-V (children), neuropsychological screening with the NEPSY-II, diagnostic assessments for autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, and comprehensive learning assessments where literacy or numeracy difficulties are suspected. Most clients come to us because a question has emerged — about school performance, NDIS eligibility, workplace accommodations, or an unanswered diagnostic question from earlier in life.

02

How an assessment runs

Each assessment begins with a clinical interview to understand what brought you in and what you want the assessment to clarify. Testing then runs across one to several sessions, with breaks scheduled so fatigue does not affect results. We score and interpret, write a comprehensive report, and book a feedback session to walk through findings, answer questions, and agree on recommendations.

03

Reports written for the people who use them

A psychological assessment report is only useful if its recommendations can be acted on. Our reports are written in clear, jargon-free language for the people who actually need them — parents, teachers, schools, NDIS planners, employers, and (when appropriate) the person assessed. Where technical scores are required, they are explained.

  • Cognitive assessments — WAIS-IV, WISC-V, NEPSY-II
  • Autism spectrum diagnostic assessments — ADOS-2 informed
  • ADHD diagnostic assessments — DIVA, behavioural rating scales
  • Learning assessments — reading, written expression, mathematics
  • Giftedness identification and twice-exceptional assessment

Assessments and the NDIS

Assessment reports are frequently used to support NDIS access requests and plan reviews. Where the question is NDIS-specific, we structure the report to address the eligibility criteria directly and recommend supports written against NDIS line items.

Frequently asked

Common questions about psychological assessment.

Do I need a referral for an assessment?
No referral is required to book an assessment. A referral can be useful where a Medicare rebate is being claimed, but most diagnostic assessments are not Medicare-rebatable in any case.
How long does an assessment take?
From first appointment to final report typically takes 4–8 weeks, depending on the assessment and our schedule. The actual testing usually fits into one to three sessions.
Will the assessment give a definite diagnosis?
Where the question is diagnostic, our reports state a clear formulation. Where evidence falls below diagnostic threshold, we say so — and recommend next steps.
Can NDIS funding cover the assessment?
Sometimes — it depends on whether your plan has Improved Daily Living funds and whether the assessment is reasonable and necessary for your plan goals. We can discuss this at the enquiry stage.
